WHY ARE WE AGAINST IT?
The proposed wind turbines to be built near Southminster are over 400 feet in height (About the height of a 40 storey building), will be clearly visible from anywhere in the Village and there may be up to sixteen of them!!
It has become apparent from the very many other similar developments in the UK that property prices within a several mile radius of large Wind Generation facilities fall rapidly by 20%-35% even with the announcement of the proposals.
The impact on health and the environment are well known and have a massive negative effect on quality of life. The construction phase of the site would involve over 16,000 lorry movements through the village over a period of 9 to 12 months using Station and Burnham Rd’s. As much of this traffic is to service the concrete pouring operation they will take place night and day; 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
In addition to the massive towers to be constructed it is likely that a huge number of additional electricity pylons will be constructed to join the existing grid, local roads will be enlarged with considerable new road construction and congestion. A peaceful rural environment will be turned into a busy industrial complex. The development will decimate local wildlife with continuing massive loss of bird life through striking the huge 90 metre (280 ft) rotors. Noise pollution will become a nightmare. Rotor tip speeds can reach 150 Mph and the resultant low frequency noise and vibration cause a number of serious medical problems. In Southminster the background noise from the rotors will be equivalent to having your TV on low volume continuously.
All of this so that Ridgewind Ltd who are a small UK front company to a large US Industrial conglomerate can make large profits. They have no interest in the environment or saving the planet. Profit is their sole motive and whilst their shareholders will benefit, local householders will find that they will lose 20%-35% of the value of their homes and will find selling their property becomes considerably more difficult.
